Abstract The Copper Range Company (1899-1977) operated copper mines in Houghton County's southern communities and in Ontonagon County. The second largest mining company in the Copper Country (after Calumet & Hecla), the Copper Range Company was the only one to endure past the 1960s. The field work was done by both Calumet and Hecla Consolidated Copper Company's Geological Division and the United States Geological Survey, probably in support of Professional Paper 144, "The Copper Deposits of Michigan."
