Collection Scope and Contents

Records, 2012-2013, of the Copper Country Survey, a historic preservation project which surveyed above-ground structures and historic resources in Keweenaw, Houghton, and Ontonagon counties as well as northwestern Baraga county. The Keweenaw National Historical Park Advisory Commission oversaw the survey. The reports contain information about the historic resources identified over the course of the project. The Final Report and Historic Preservation Plan identifies critical issues for historic preservation in the Copper Country and discusses goals that address those issues. The collection includes interim and final reports and DVDs. The DVDs contain digital photographs, maps, survey forms, worksheets, databases, and copies of the reports.

Biography and History

The Keweenaw National Historical Park was established to preserve and interpret the copper-mining history of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The park's Advisory Commission, composed of seven volunteers appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, oversaw this study, which was funded by the Americana Foundation, the Federal Highway Administration National Scenic Byways program, the National Park Service, and private donors.
