Lawton Family Collection
Collection, 1880-1968; 2007-2019, of the Lawton family of Michigan. Includes field notebooks of Charles DeWitt Lawton, written during his tenure as the State of Michigan Commissioner of Mineral Statistics, as well as correspondence of Charles Latham Lawton and Swaby Lawton. Also contains biographical information on family members including Charles Latham Lawton, Swaby Lawton, Nathan Oliver Lawton, Charles E. Wright and Ross Dunbar Blackburn.
Longyear Spitsbergen Collection
Collection, 1819-1978, of John Munro Longyear relating to the coal operations of the Svalbard Archipelago in the Arctic Ocean north of Norway, especially on Spitsbergen, the largest island. Includes photographs, publications, newspaper clippings, maps, and correspondence. Some published items are in various non-English languages; English translations are available for a portion of the publications.
Michigan Department of Conservation Fire Report Records
Records, 1942-1976, of fire reports for the Michigan Department of Conservation, kept by Sulo Levanen, a long-time employee of the department in Keweenaw and Houghton counties. In addition to field reports of fires, there are daily log books, payroll reports, maps and drawings of the Upper Peninsula, fire summary reports and burning permit records.
