Abstract Wood sample, circa 1936, of John C. Alexander, a 1927 graduate of the Michigan College of Mines (now Michigan Technological University) in Houghton, Michigan. Sample of guijo wood, cut from a wall plate of the Longos mine shaft in the Philippines, dewatered by the United Paracale Mining Company. Abstract

Papers, 1966, chronicling the tragic death of 7-year old Ruth Ann Miller. Miller was playing around the abandoned No. 4 shaft of the Tamarack Mine in Houghton County, Michigan when she slipped under its cap and fell to her death. Includes photocopies and scans from local and regional papers about the accident and the subsequent unsuccessful attempts at rescue and recovery. Also includes newspaper accounts about the vandalism of the memorial erected at the site.
