Diary, 1848, of Lydia Reed Smith Douglass. Photocopies of original and typed transcript of the diary describe her first year of marriage to Columbus C. Douglass, including trips to Illinois and Wisconsin to meet her in-laws and her trip to and subsequent life on Isle Royale, Michigan where her husband, then an employee of the Ohio and Isle Royale Mining Company, had moved to open and manage a mine and smelting operation.

Biography
Lydia was the daughter of James K. Smith, of St. Clair County (Mich.), and a pioneer and wife of Columbus C. Douglass, who was a cousin and an assistant to Douglass Houghton.
