Scope and Contents
Research material, approximately 2009-2017, on the history of veterans of the Upper Peninsula compiled and written by Paul Nelson, Richard Rupley, and Roland Burgan. The bulk of the accession contains material pertaining to veterans of the Civil War and World War II. Included are lists of names, residence, regiment/ship, and records of service for Civil War veterans from Houghton and Keweenaw Counties compiled by Richard Rupley; as well as a semi-published history of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Albert and James Lyon Camp 266 by Paul Nelson.. The accession also includes a compilation of letters detailing the experiences of Hugh McNair, Houghton native and ambulance driver during World War I, compiled by Richard Rupley; as well as a biographical sketch of Rupley himself. The accession also includes research materials and photographs on CD of the 15th Division U.S. Naval Reserve from Hancock, Michigan compiled by Roland Burgan, including information on the USS Vernon.
