Douglass Houghton Papers
Papers, 1830-1846, of Douglass Houghton, Michigan's first state geologist as well as a physician and scientist. Includes correspondence, survey maps, geological field notes for the interior Lower Peninsula, the shorelines of the Lower and Upper Peninsulas, and the southern shoreline of Lake Superior, Isle Royale, and the Upper Peninsula. Also includes a calendar and a small index volume with names.

Collection, circa 1887, includes survey book and photocopies of a Paine family genealogy and a letter. The genealogy is from the "Paine Genealogy and Allied Lines" by Ruth F.W. Paine (wife of William A. Paine) and the letter is from S.S. (Sarah Sargent) Paine to her son William Paine and his wife Ruth, dated April 19, 1887.
