Abstract
The center of Copper Range Company mining operations until the 1950s, Adams Township contains the Village of South Range and the unincorporated communities of Atlantic Mine, Baltic, Painesdale, Toivola, and Trimountain. The Copper Range Company (1899-1977) operated copper mines in Houghton County's southern communities and in Ontonagon County. The second largest mining company in the Copper Country (after Calumet & Hecla), the Copper Range Company was the only one to endure past the 1960s.
