Historical Note

The Aura Hospital Auxiliary was founded in Baraga County, Michigan on June 25, 1952. The Auxiliary has been active since 1952 and is the last local hospital auxiliary. The first Chairman of the group was Alma Brogan, the first Secretary/Treasurer was Ella Koski, and the first Assistant to the Secretary/Treasurer was Edna Lehto. Over the years, the Auxiliary has taken on many causes to help the community, such as donating money for physical therapy equipment in 2018. The group is most well known for their annual scholarship fund for a Bargara county resident pursuing a degree in healthcare and their Lights of Love event. The first Lights of Love event was held in December 1994 and has continued annually since. Community members pay for lights on two Christmas trees: one in white lights to remember lost loved ones and one in color to honor living people.
