Scope and Contents
Twenty-nine black and white photographs and postcards, approximately 1905-1920, of the Snowdon Family of Houghton, Michigan. Included are snapshots of children outdoors, animal, and posed group photographs; as well as studio portraits of individuals and groups. Some images in the accession include views of house exteriors and glimpses of street scenes.

Biographical Note
The Snowdon Family lived in Houghton, Michigan in the early 1900s. Alfred Snowdon was born in Cornwall, England on May 31, 1874 and immigrated to the United State in 1893. He married Sarah Jane “Jennie” Richards on December 21, 1898 in Quinnesec, Michigan. The family relocated to Houghton, Michigan where Alfred was employed with the Isle Royale Copper Company as a stationary engineer. The couple had three children, Leslie, Mildred, Alfred K., and George and in the early 1910s housed a boarder named Opie William. The family later moved to the Detroit area.
