Scope and Contents

Records, 1953-1965 and 2004-2005, of Copper Country Charities, a non-profit organization that operated out of Hancock, Michigan. Included in the accession are financial records (receipts, disbursements, and reports) and articles of incorporation. While the vast majority of the collection dates from 1953 to 1963, there are also two letters of correspondence belonging to Robert L. Roy regarding the dissolution of the CCC into the Hancock Rotary Club.

Historical Note

The Copper Country Charities, Inc. organization was organized as a non-profit organization in May 1953. The purpose of the organization was to function as a charitable and benevolent non-profit corporation for the purpose of producing or sponsoring plays, movies, bazares, suppers, get-togethers for various charitable and benevolent projects. Its membership was solely composed of members of the Hancock Rotary Club and its office was located at 101 Quincy Street in Hancock, Michigan. Based on the two documents in this accession from the now Hancock Rotary Club, Copper Country Charities, Inc. was eventually dissolved and its funds were absorbed into the Rotary Club of Hancock’s treasury.
