Scope and Contents
Photograph album, 1918-1919, belonging to the Hermann Family of Laurium, Michigan. The album includes snapshots of mostly unidentified children and adults in and around the Copper Country with additional views of local wildlife, the Silver River, falls at L’Anse, and the exterior of Calumet High School. Several photos include posed snapshots of young men in World War I military uniforms. The album belonged to Elizabeth “Libbie (Hermann) Townsend who would have been around the age of 15 or 16 at the time the photographs were taken.

Biographical / Historical
Elizabeth “Libbie” (Hermann) Townsend was born September 16, 1903 to Harry and Teresa Hermann of Laurium, Michigan and worked as a public school teacher. Libbie married Ernest Joseph Townsend on March 24, 1932 and had two children, Josephine and Mildred. Townsend died on March 28, 1972 in Hancock.
