Scope and Contents

Collection, 1977-2017, documenting Phase II of the Writing Across the Curriculum project at Michigan Technological University. The documents primarily relate to a writing in engineering project sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) from 1990-1992. Included are background files on WAC projects, presentations at the Conference on College Composition and Communication, and administrative structures. Also included are files documenting activities sponsored by the Whirlpool Foundation, grant proposals, course designs, newsletters, and documentation of the development of a training manual. Also included are three cassette boxes containing interviews with engineering faculty participants and student groups, conference talks and panel discussions, as well as talks on WAC by Anne Ruggles Gere and Dixie Goswami.

Biographical / Historical

The materials assembled for this collection relate primarily to a writing in engineering project sponsored by the National Science Foundation from 1990-1992, Phase II of Michigan Technological University's Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program. The origins of the program date back to late 1970.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The Writing Across the Curriculum Collection was donated to the Michigan Technological University Archives and Copper Country Historical Collections by Elizabeth Flynn on July 19, 2017.

General

This collection is dedicated to the memory of Davis Hubbard, Principal Investigator of the Writing in Engineering Design Course project supported by the National Science Foundation from 1990-1992. Davis died of cancer in November 1994. As the documents make evident, Davis worked tirelessly on the project.
