Historical Note

The Copper Country Historical Resource Partnership was established in 1997 in response to a concern within the community for the preservation and access to historical research resources in the area, such as historical societies, public libraries, and county clerk offices. Headed by Michigan Technological University Archivist, Erik Nordberg, this organizational committee was formed in order to collaborate and educate each other on preservation issues and to improve the overall access to the historical records in the region and promote public awareness. Members of local historical societies, archives, national parks, libraries and government agencies were invited to participate in this collaborative group. Among the activities conducted by the group was an inventory of headstone inscriptions at the Jacobsville Cemetery in July 1999.
