Biographical note
William J. Shedwick, Jr. was born in 1888 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended the Michigan College of Mines (now Michigan Technological University) in Houghton, Michigan, graduating in 1909 with a Bachelor of Science and an Engineer of Mines degree. He went on to work in the copper mining industry in Alaska, Mexico, and Cuba.
