Biography

The Lake Superior Radio Club was founded in 1948 by a group of amateur radio enthusiasts in Houghton County, Michigan. The club sought to organize into one body amateur radio operators and others interested in amateur radio, further the art of amateur radio, set up an emergency radio communication system, and assist beginners in learning the Continental Morse Code and radio fundimentals. The club held a formal meeting on September 20, 1948 at the Laurium Town Hall to elect officers. Bob McKinnon was elected as the club's first president, Reino Helppi was elected to the office of vice president, and Art Kohn was elected as the treasurer/ secretary. In May 1957 club activity dropped and discussion was made to drop the formalities of the club and meet as an interested group.
