Biography
Early students at what became Michigan Technological University largely resided in private boarding houses and converted homes before the institution constructed its first dormitory, Douglass Houghton Hall, in 1939. Wadsworth Hall was built eastward in stages beginning in 1954. Construction began on the first phase of Co-Ed (McNair) Hall, built in response to rising enrollment of women students, in 1965. A second stage followed not long after. In addition to dormitories, the college erected the Memorial Union Building (MUB) for student socialization and other needs in 1959. The MUB was substantially renovated and expanded in 1989.
