Photograph albums, 1911-1924, of Myrtle Exley, a native of Hancock, Michigan and 1916 graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Contains photographs of Hancock and the Michigan College of Mines in Houghton, Michigan as well as scenes from her enrollment at the University of Michigan and subsequent teaching posts. Also includes snapshots from various vacations. One page also includes wedding and birth announcements from friends.

Biography

Myrtle Henrietta Exley was born in 1893 in Hancock, Michigan. Her father was a blacksmith, carriage and wagon maker in the Houghton and Hancock area. She attended the University of Michigan, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in 1916. She became a teacher in Hancock in 1921. She also taught high school in Hamtramck, Michigan, near Detroit, and in central Michigan at the Central Normal School in Mt. Pleasant. She married Herbert Orrin Miller, manager of her father's company. She passed away in 1939 at the age of 45 in Hancock.
