Abstract

Correspondence, 1859-1910, received and sent by Richard M. Hoar, a prominent early citizen of Houghton, Michigan. Includes correspondence pertaining to his business with his brother, J. Hoar & Brother, a general merchandise business, as well as other business related correspondence, bills and receipts. Also includes correspondence from his capacity as a member of the Michigan state legislature and Houghton town official.

Arrangement

This collection is arranged into three series: 1. Business Enterprises, 2. Political and Community Involvement, and 3. Legal and Financial Documentation.

Acquisition

The correspondence, bills, and receipts of Richard M. Hoar were donated to the Michigan Technological University Archives and Copper Country Historical Collections by Carlos Wenberg on November 16, 1988.
