Historical Note
The Northland Historical Consortium was established in 1985 as an informal association of local historical societies, archives, and historians in northeastern Wisconsin and Michigan's central and western Upper Peninsula. For many years, the Michigan Technological University Archives and Copper Country Historical Collections served as the coordinating organization of the group. Gradually, that responsibility shifted to the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives and affiliated organizations. Members of the Northland Historical Consortium met biannually to collaborate and share knowledge, with societies taking turns to serve as host.
