Biography
Maude Sincock Roberts was born in Toronto, Canada to a Cornish father and Canadian mother. When Maude was young the family moved back to Cornwall. In 1911 Maude's father and elder sister emigrated to Hancock, Michigan where he worked for the Quincy Mining Company. Maude emigrated in April, 1912 when she embarked on the ill-fated TITANIC (built 1912). She had been booked on another ship; however, a coal strike had forced other ships to transfer their coal and passengers to the TITANIC. When the ship was sunk, Maude was able to get into a lifeboat and was rescued along with the other survivors by the CARPATHIA (built 1902). Upon arriving in New York, Maude continued on with her journey to Michigan where she spoke often to local audiences recalling the story of her rescue. Maude Sincock Roberts died in 1984.
