Engineering field notes, circa 1916, from the Interstate Commerce Commission Bureau of Valuation's survey of railroad structures. Includes photocopies from the National Archives and Records Administration of building survey sheets with descriptions, photographs and floor and elevation plans of buildings owned by the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railroad, such as the depot in Calumet originally constructed by the Mineral Range Railroad.

Biography
Originally established on February 4, 1887, the Interstate Commerce Commission was as an independent agency created by the Interstate Commerce Act (24 Stat. 379). Through its various bureaus or divisions, the Commission regulated carriers, such as the railroads, who engaged in the transport of interstate commerce and in foreign commerce within the U.S. Abolished under 109 Stat. 932 on December 29, 1995, the Commission has been succeeded by the Surface Transportation Board, Department of Transportation.
