Biography

The steamship IVANHOE was built in 1869 by David Bell's Steam Engine Works in Buffalo, New York for himself. He ran it as an excursion boat out of Buffalo for several years before selling the steamer to the Hoar Brothers of Houghton, Michigan. The IVANHOE was run as a mail steamer between L'Anse and Hancock six days a week, and carried the mail, passengers and express material.
