Biography
The Houghton Nickle (sic) Club (later known as the Houghton Civic Club) was established in 1914 as a social welfare organization. Their stated mission was to receive through dues from members and voluntary contributions from other sources means for the relief and assistance of destitute or needy families in Houghton, Michigan. The following year the mission was expanded to further and promote the civic and moral improvement of the community.
