Biography
John Kaleita, age 83, passed away September 24, 2003 after a lengthy illness. John was born in Stambaugh, Mich., and moved to Detroit as an infant. He was a graduate of Cass Tech High School in Detroit and enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving in North Africa and Italy in World War II. John was employed as a typesetter with the Detroit Free Press and later with the T.P. Henry Company. He was a community advocate, serving as president of the Highland Park, Mich. Jaycees and the Ferndale, Mich., PTA. In retirement he published the Keweenaw newsletters South Point Scene, North Shore Scene, the South Point Points and the South Shore Town Crier.
