Their early history was dedicated to securing protective legislation for birds in the face of a millinery industry which was devastating many bird species. Over the years, it has continued its commitment by gathering vital research data on birds and their habitats through its partnerships with other conservation organizations and governmental agencies and the assistance of professional ornithologists, skilled amateurs, and backyard birders alike. Additionally, it has expanded its efforts to include the conservation of thousands of acres of land on Michigan Audubon sanctuaries throughout the state.
