Biography

Keweenaw National Historical Park is made up of partner sites and two federally designated units – Quincy and Calumet – located at the sites of former large-scale copper mines. The Calumet Unit of the park focuses on the preservation and interpretation of buildings and sites associated with the former Calumet and Hecla Copper Mining Company and the Village of Calumet. Within the Quincy Unit are former Quincy Mining Company properties, including mine shafts, hoist houses and the copper smelting complex on the shore of Portage Lake. Most property within the units is privately owned. As the park continues to develop, additional services will become available (from http://www.nps.gov/kewe/index.htm, accessed January 2011).
