Biography
The Owls Club of Houghton County, Michigan was a club whose stated mission was to afford an opportunity for social contact and to promote and maintain a spirit of good fellowship among its members. The president was known as the Big Hoot, vice-president as the Little Hoot with the secretary and treasurer known as the Screech Owl and the Hook Owl. Membership of the club was restricted to 35 men who lived in Houghton County, south of Portage Lake, in Portage Township, or adjacent territory. They sponsored dances several times a year and supported winter sports development in the community. Their monthly meetings generally consisted of a short meeting followed by a long cocktail hour and dinner.
