Collection Scope and Content Summary

Records, 1910-1937, of the North Lake Mining Company as well as the South Lake Mining Company and the Franklin Mining Company. Includes minutes of stockholder meetings, directors meetings and by-laws for the North Lake Mining Company, stockholder meetings, stock and accounting records for the South Lake Mining Company and cost records of the Franklin Mining Company. Also includes a division of time and labor ledger that records the amount of time spent on various tasks such as timbering, tramming, sharpening drills, etc. and one issue of a Michigan College of Mining and Technology alumni bulletin from November 1, 1937 as well as various letters of resignation from officers in 1933.

Biography

North Lake Mining Company was organized in 1908 in Ontonagon County. The company had property on the Lake bed and the Evergreen belt of beds. No rock was milled. South Lake Mining Company, formerly known as the Aztec Mining Company, was reorganized in 1909 in Ontonagon County. Production ceased in 1915. Franklin Mining Company was organized in 1857 in Houghton County. In 1909 Franklin was sold to Quincy Mining Company.
