Collection Scope and Content Summary

Weather data, 1968-1978, from the National Weather Service in Houghton County, Michigan. Includes daily hourly and weekly surface weather observations including sky and ceiling observations, visibility, temperatures, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction as well as a summaries of the hourly readings with maximum and minimum temperatures, snow falls, snow depth, etc. Also includes United States Department of Commerce Weather Bureau (precursor to the National Weather Service) publications, along with climatological data sheets.

Biography

The National Weather Service (NWS) provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. NWS data and products form a national information database and infrastructure which can be used by other governmental agencies, the private sector, the public, and the global community.
