Biographical/ Historical Note

The Lake Linden Congregational Church located at 1401 Calumet St was a member of the Lake Superior Association of the Congregational Churches of America. The congregation formed in 1882 from a group of Scottish residents, which included prominent members of the community and managers from the C&H mills. The church was built in 1887, three months after the fire that destroyed a majority of Lake Linden. In the early 1980s the congregation had declined in membership and could no longer support the use of the church. The church was deeded to the Houghton County Historical Society and now functions as its Heritage Center. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
