Biography

Organized November 1905 in Houghton, Michigan and operating in Ontonagon County, the land was orginally the Belt mine, first opened in 1848, and taken over, in 1882, by the Belt Mines Co., Ltd. This company was unsuccessful in its management and operations of the mine were taken over by the Lake Copper Company. The Lake Copper Company successfully operated the Knowlton and Bulter lodes on the property. The company later became part of the Copper Range Companies.
