Collection Scope and Content Summary

From the Collection:

Records, 1908-1940, of the Traprock Valley Grange, a fraternal organization for farmers and agricultural workers. The Traprock Valley Grange, Grange number 1316, was located in Houghton County in the Traprock Valley area, which was a farming and agricultural community. It is uncertain where the Traprock Valley Grange conducted their meetings. All mail was sent to Secretary Matt Jacobsen in Calumet, Michigan. Correspondence from the Marquette County Grange, Michigan State Grange, and National Grange are included. Two letters are from United States Senators Arthur H. Vandenberg and Prentiss M. Brown in 1940 concerning several pieces of legislation. Publications of the Michigan State Grange and National Grange make up a large part of the collection. The collection includes meeting minutes, membership rosters, and the “Ritual” manual of the Grange, containing information such as calling the meetings of the Grange to order and installing new officers and members.
