Subseries II: Hulbert Mining Company Records, 1860 - 1963
Scope and Contents
This subseries contains correspondence, land records, financial records, and meeting records from the Hulbert Mining Company and some of its affiliates (mostly from the Secretary-Treasurer's Office). This includes material relating to E. J. Hulbert's discovery of the Calumet Conglomerate and the subsequent organization of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Companies.

Biographical / Historical
The Hulbert Mining Company was founded in 1863 for the purpose of exploring what would later become the famed Calumet Lode. After playing a key role in the formation of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Companies, the company continued operating for decades. It was officially dissolved in 1924, but its affairs were not wound up until 1964.
