Biographical / Historical
C. G. Hussey & Company was founded by Curtis G. Hussey, one of the original directors of the Pittsburgh and Boston Mining Company (owner of the Cliff Mine), in Pittsburgh in 1848 as a smelter and copper rolling mill for the Cliff Mine. After the Pittsburgh & Boston sold the mine in 1870, C. G. Hussey & Company became increasingly focused on its extensive milling operation.
In 1931, after years of poor management, the company found itself deeply in debt and on the verge of liquidation. As one of the company's major creditors, Copper Range Company agreed to come to C. G. Hussey & Company's rescue in exchange for a controlling interest in a reincorporated company.
Following a lengthy court battle, the two merged in 1936, and C. G. Hussey & Company became a division of the Copper Range Company. In December 1963, its name was changed to the Hussey Metals Division.
